In the six months since my last post (egads), I’ve spent my non-working, non-full-out-leisure hours making jewelry, decorating the new master bedroom, traveling here and there, gardening a lot (by which I mean weeding a lot), and knitting. Recently I decided to give sock knitting one more shot, and now I’ve become completely obsessed.

Another year, another reno. In November, B found an online drafting site and played around with designing a new master bedroom. Still feeling the aftershocks of the Great Downstairs Renovation of 2009, I cautiously asked when he thought we might do this work. “Oh, not until late summer at the earliest,” came his answer. We’ve been together 16 years. I suspected the truth was that we were weeks away from the bedroom renovation, not months.

I can’t recall where I first read about Victorian acrostic jewelry, but it was a few years ago, and the idea to use it as inspiration had been rumbling around in my head for a while. I found a great article all about it at the Sentimental Jewelry blog, but in short, acrostic jewelry uses the first letter of each gemstone to spell out a word or phrase or name that has sentimental meaning for both the giver and the recipient.
